David H. Gilbert, M.D.

DHG in-brochureDr. David H. Gilbert is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, whose practice is entirely devoted to the care and rehabilitation of hand, wrist, and elbow diseases and injuries.

Dr. Gilbert graduated from Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts, magna cum laude, and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. After graduating the New York University Bellevue Medical Center School of Medicine, he was selected to remain at that institution where he completed a Surgery internship and Orthopaedic Surgery residency.

At NYU, Dr. Gilbert distinguished himself by receiving the highest score on the Orthopaedic In-Training Examination and by being awarded the Chief Residency position. During that residency, Dr. Gilbert worked with world-famous hand surgeons and developed a love and admiration for the wondrous complexity of the anatomy and function of the hand.

Dr. Gilbert used this springboard to gain further experience and technical mastery of his art by completing a Hand, Upper Extremity, and Microvascular Surgery Fellowship at the renowned Indiana Hand Center, which was one of the most sought-after positions of Hand Surgery training in the world. There he was taught by current and past leaders and pioneers within the field of Hand Surgery.

Dr. Gilbert, along with his certified hand therapy and wound care team, joined Dr. Reilly in 1998. He currently holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand, which is the highest board certification available for practicing hand surgeons. He currently holds professional appointments at Holy Cross Hospital and Imperial Point Medical Center. Dr. Gilbert has a particular interest in the treatment of injured workers. In fact, since its inception in 2003, Dr. Gilbert has been nominated every year and is a two-time winner of the Florida Choice Awards for Workers’ Compensation. This award is provided to the top five physicians in any specialty providing medical care to injured workers in the entire state of Florida.

Dr. Gilbert seeks to restore anatomy and function often ravaged by injury and disease, in an effort to regain the patient’s previous level of function and quality of life. Patients of Dr. Gilbert have been impressed with his concerned and unhurried demeanor, combined with the most honest and ethical practice of medicine. His focus is on the patient as a whole and complete person and not just an injured appendage. Dr. Gilbert is honored to have the opportunity to profoundly impact and improve the lives of his patients through love, compassion, and technical expertise within the field of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery.
